Why did Allah create us?

Assalamu alaykum
Allah The Almighty says:
“I have created the jinn and humankind only for My worship” The Holy Qur’an, Chapter 51, Verse 56
From this verse, it is apparent that Allah created us for His worship. This life that He has given us is purely a passing journey which He describes in The Qur’an as follows:
“[It is He] who created death and life to test which of you is best in conduct; and He is the Mighty, the Forgiving” The Holy Qur’an, Chapter 67, Verse 2 And in another verse:
“Surely I have created all that is on earth as its ornaments that I may test which of them is best in conduct.” The Holy Qur’an, Chapter 18, Verse 7
Our purpose in life is to serve Allah through the means that He has given us. This is by way of the daily prayers and other acts of worship such as giving charity and fasting. One must realise that Allah is not in need of our worship and someone not praying does not diminish His glory in the slightest. However, the purpose for creating us is so that we may recognise His grand Majesty and His Magnificence. Someone who does not ponder upon the true purpose of creation is living aimlessly in this world with no goal in mind. As believers, our goal must always be the Akhirah (Afterlife) and the objective in this life is that we please Allah by following his commands and abstaining from that which He has forbidden. The greatest way of doing this is by following the character and behaviour of His Beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam). Allah sent Our Beloved (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) as a guiding light for us so that we may recognise the wonders of the creation which in turn can lead us to glorify Him, Jalla Jalaluhu.

And Allah knows best!
