Allah`s name I begin with, blessings and Salutations be upon the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace)

Inside the Dome of the Rock is a large stone. The stone was the place from where the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) ascended to Me`raj (the Ascension) to the Heavens. The golden dome was build later over the rock. This is the very stone that floats and is not held by any support.

Whatever place the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) prayed and touched is regarded as a relic. Throughout the history of Islam, if the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) offered prayer at a place then a Mosque was built. Hence, this is the very place the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) ascended to the Heavens to meet his Lord (The Exalted)

The Golden dome is called Masjid-e-Sakarah otherwise known as the `Dome of the Rock`. Not far from this Masjid is Masjid-e-Aqsa, which has a dark green dome. The two mosques are usually confused and even on some wall pictures and paintings the `Dome of the Rock` is erroneously referred to as Masjid-e-Aqsa.

Allah (The Exalted) and the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) know best.
