Ramadan Lesson 24 of 30.

REMEMBRANCE OF ALLAH IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES

Almighty Allah says in the Holy Qur'an:

"Behold! In the creation of the heavens and the earth and in the alternation of night and day there are indeed tokens (of His Sovereignty) for people of understanding, who remember Allah, standing, sitting and reclining on their sides." [ AALI -`IMRAAN, 3:190-191 ]

The Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) tells us in his Hadith:

'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) remembered Allah on all occasions.

KAANA RASUULULLAAHI  SALLALLAAHU `ALAYHI WA SALLAM  YADH-KURUL-LAAHA  `ALAA  KULLI  AHYAANIHI

[ Reported by Imam Muslim ]

Abdullah Ibn 'Abbas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) as saying: If anyone intends to go (for sexual intercourse) to his wife, he should say, In the name of Allah, O'Allah! Keep us away from the devil and keep the devil away from what You have bestowed upon : and if Allah has ordained a child for them, the devil will never harm him.

            [ Agreed Upon ]

REMEMBRANCE OF ALLAH IN AN ASSEMBLY

Allah, the Exalted says:

And keep your soul content with those who call on their Lord, morning and evening, seeking His pleasure and look not beyond them.  (18: 29)

The Prophet PBUH says in his Hadith:

Abu Hurayrah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported that Allah's Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

Allah has mobile squads of angels who go about in the bazaars or on the roads seeking those who remember Allah.  When they find people doing so, they call to one another and say: Come to what you are looking for; and they surround them with their wings till the space between them and the sky of the world is fully covered, and when they disperse (after the assembly of remembrance is adjourned) they ascend towards the heaven.

Allah, the Exalted and Glorious asks them (although He is best informed about everything): What are My servants saying? They say: they are glorifying Thee (Subhānallāh), uttering Your Greatness (Allāhu Akbar) and uttering Your Oneness (Lā Ilāha Il-lal-lāh) and praising You (Alhamdu lillāh).

He asks:  Have they seen Him?

When they reply: No, indeed, they have not seen Thee.

He asks: How would they act if they had seen Him.

Thereupon they reply: If they had seen Thee they would have engaged more earnestly in worshipping and glorifying Thee and would have extolled Thee more.

He would say: What do they beg of Me?

They say: They beg of Thee Your Paradise.

Allah says: Have they seen My Paradise?

They say: No, Our Lord.

He says: How would they act if they were to see Mine paradise?

They reply: Had they seen it, they would have been more intensely eager for it.  They (the angels) say: They seek Thine protection.

He (the Lord) says: Against what do they seek protection of Mine? They the angels) say: Our lord, from the fire of Hell.

He (the Lord) says: Have they seen the Fire of Hell?

They say : No.

He says: How would they act if they were to see it?

They reply: Had they seen it, they would have been more earnest in flying from it and fearing it.

They beg of Thee forgiveness.

He says: I call you to witness that I hereby grant pardon to them and confer upon them what they ask for and grant them protection against from what they seek protection.

One of the angels says: Our Lord, there is one amongst them, such and such servant, who does not belong to the assembly of those who are participating in the remembrance of Allah.  He came in connection with his own work.

He says: I also grant him pardon because, they (i.e. that group) are the people by virtue of whom their associate will not be unfortunate.  (Agreed Upon)

Abu Hurayrah and Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri (May Allah be pleased with them) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

When the people assemble for the remembrance of Allah, they are surrounded by angels and are covered by mercy and there descends upon them tranquillity (Sakiinah) as they remember Allah, and Allah makes a mention of them to those who are near Him.

[ Reported by Imam Muslim ]

Abu Waaqid Harith bin 'Auf (May Allah be pleased with him) reported that Allah's Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was sitting in the Masjid surrounded by his companions. Three persons came to him.  While two of them stepped forward to the direction of Allah's Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and the third went away.  Those two men stood by the side of Allah's Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) one of them found a space in the circle, and he sat there. The other one sat behind him. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had finished his work, he said:

Should I not inform you about these three persons?  One of them sought refuge with Allah and Allah gave him refuge and the second one felt shy and Allah showed kindness to his shyness (and so he was accommodated in that meeting) and the last one averted and Allah turned away His attention from him.

[ Agreed Upon ]

Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that Mu'awiya (Allah be pleased with him) came to an assembly in the Mosque and said to them:

What causes you to sit together.  They replied : We have sat down to remember Allah.  He said: I adjure you by Allah to tell me whether nothing else has made you sit together.  On their replying that there was certainly no other cause, he said: I did not adjure you because I suspected you.

No one of my rank in the eyes of Allah's Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is the narrator of so few traditions as I am.  The fact is that Allah's Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) went out to a circle of his companions and said: What has made them sit there?

When they replied that they had sat together to remember Allah and praise Him for guiding them to Islam and bestowing favours on them.  He said: I adjure you by Allah to tell me that nothing else has made you sit together.

On their reply that there was certainly no other cause he said: I do not adjure you because I suspected you, but Gabriel came to me and told me that Allah was talking proudly of you to the angels.
