DHIKR IN THE HADITH  -  PART  III

1.         On the authority of Mu`ādh Ibn Jabal [Radiyallāhu `Anhu - May Allah be pleased with him] who narrated that the Messenger of Allah [Rasūlullāh Sallallāhu `Alayhi Wa Sallam - Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said:

"No action is better than Dhikrullah in saving a person from the punishment of the grave." [1]

[ Reported by Imam Ahmad Ibn Ahmad in his Musnad ]

2.         On the authority of Abu Ad-Dardā [R.A.] who narrated that the Messenger of Allah [S] said:

"Allah will resurrect some people on the Day of Judgement in such a state that their faces will be radiant with light (NŪR), they will be sitting on mimbars made of pearls, and other people will envy their position; They are neither from the Prophets nor from the martyrs."

Someone asked the Prophet [S]: "Explain to us who they are so we can recognise them."

The Messenger of Allah [S] said:

"They are believers who love one another only for the pleasure of Allah: they are from different families and different places, but they gather together to engage in the remembrance of Allah." [2]

            [ Reported by Imam At-Tabarāni ]

3.         On the authority of Anas Ibn Malik [R.A.] who narrated that the Messenger of Allah [S] said:

"When you pass by the gardens of Jannah, graze to your heart's content."

I-DHĀ  MARRARTUM  BI-RIYĀDIL  JANNATI  FAR-TA`Ū

Someone asked, "O Messenger of Allah [S], what is meant by the gardens of Jannah?"

QĀLA:  WA MĀ RIYĀDUL  JANNATI ?

            He replied:

            "The gatherings of DHIKR."

            QĀLA:  HILAQU-DH- DHIKRI [3]

[ Reported by Imam Ahmad and At-Tirmidhi ]

If anyone is fortunate to be in such a gathering, he/she should take full advantage of the opportunity, because these are the gardens of Paradise on this earth. The words "graze to your heart's content" signify that, just as an animal grazing in a green pasture or garden does not give up grazing until they are fully satisfied, similarly a DHAAKIR (one who practices Dhikr) should not get pulled away from the gatherings of Dhikr by worldly anxieties and obstacles. The gatherings of Dhikr are likened to the gardens of Paradise, because just as they are no worries in Paradise, similarly circles of Dhikr are safeguarded from anxieties and calamities.
