PREPARING FOR RAMADĀN 


THINGS TO AVOID

 

 

There are some things that you should strive to avoid.

 

These include:

 

1.         Reduce the number of hours you watch TV, instead spend more time reading the Qur'an and other Islamic literature, and engage in `Ibādah.

 

 

2.         Avoid looking at unlawful pictures, whether they are from commercial magazines, department store catalogs or otherwise.

 

 

3.         Avoid going to theaters; instead go to the Masjid, and make that a once-a-day habit at least.

 

 

4.         Avoid eating too much. Do not eat unless you are hungry and try not to fill your stomach.

 

 

5.         If you drink coffee, tea or soda/pop drinks, be sure to reduce consumption.

 

 

6.         If you smoke, try to reduce daily usage and get rid of this evil, reprehensible vice; otherwise Ramadān will be very difficult for you to observe.

 

 

7.         If you like to listen to music, whether the style of western societies or those from Muslim countries, or even the so called "muslim rap music", then spend your time doing something useful. Reduce or eliminate the time you spend on them; replace this with reciting the Holy Qur'an and listening to Qur'anic recitation.

 

 

8.         If you enjoy playing cards and board games try your best to avoid this as much as possible and fill your time with something useful.

 

 

9.         If you enjoy going with friends to picnics and other social gatherings, try to reduce it before Ramadān; otherwise fasting the month of Ramadān will be more difficult.

 

 

10.       If you have friends who do not practice the teaching of Islam, try to avoid socializing with them.

 

 

11.       If you travel a lot on business, try to do more local business so you can be closer to your family and community.

 

 

12.       If you are in the habit of staying up late at night, try to go to bed earlier, so that you will be able to wake up early for Salātul Tahajjud and Salātul Fajr.

 

 

To prepare yourself before Ramadān arrives is far better than waiting till it comes.

 

To prepare yourself for anything in life is a sign of wisdom and maturity.

 

No one is assured of living one day more. Tomorrow may not come.

 

So hurry and benefit from the blessings and rewards of Allah Subhānuhu Wa Ta`āla.
